Best Part of Yesterday Was Spreading #WriteOut26 to New Haven Public Schools and Connecting with ol' Friends

It was a beautiful day in Connecticut, and even more so when I learned I was going to meet with Nicole Brown, a principal in New Haven. She is simply the best of the best and so many of my positive memories in this state are because of her and her leadership. She's a literacy treasure and now an administrator. I was thrilled to bring copies of Grant Snider's Poetry Comics to her and the teachers, knowing they will run with the opportunity.

When she opened to the poem, "Ode to the Acorn," she had to walk me over to the school's motto and vision. They are the Might Oaks, so that particular poetry comic was perfect for the school. I just love thriving off her energy and being joyful with her. I hope to see much more of her during the rest of the year.

I also got a proof for POW '26 and edited a few more times. I didn't realize the number of kids we were actually publishing, but this is definitely the thickest edition yet. It was the summer programs, but also more of the expansive ways we opened up the publication to addition K-12 writers. The hard copy should come soon after, and then I will have to get them to the families. Last year we partnered with Women's Volleyball and it was a a great way to get most of the books distributed (and build a much bigger audience for the game).

Today, it is supposed to rain, but I am going to lunch with senior member faculty from the School of Nursing. It's a professional check-in meeting, and a celebration of promotions, too. One of the rare perks at Fairfield University is how easy it is to get to know professionals from other schools and to build relationships. Those with a respect for research, teaching, and service tend to find one another over the years, especially in committee work. I like I get to mentor colleagues in other disciplines and schools of thought.

I have to say, it makes a tremendous difference in a week when there's a Fall Break and there are no classes to teach. I feel like I was able to accomplish so much more than usual. Ah, but I need to look ahead at the calendar because it is about to get insane.
